第１回伝検の２級最優秀賞、江村さん　「テキストを読み込みました」 

最優秀賞を受賞した江村拓也さん

６月１日から第２回検定が始まりました。受験者の皆さまの学習の参考として、第１回で２級最優秀賞を受賞した江村拓也さんに学習方法などを伺いました。

―伝検を知ったきっかけを教えてください。

私は現在、全国の伝統的工芸品に出会えるギャラリー＆ショップである「青山スクエア」（東京都港区赤坂）のスタッフとして働いており、普段から伝統工芸に接しています。２０２４年の１１月中旬ごろに青山スクエアの職員同士で話をしている時に伝検の存在を知り、受けてみようという話になりました。やるからにはしっかり勉強しようと、そこから集中して取り組みました。

―どのような勉強方法で臨んだのか教えてください。

とにかくテキストを読み込みました。５周はしましたね。普段はじっくりと学習や研究を進めるタイプなのですが、今回はあまり時間もなかったので少し付け焼き刃だったかという自己評価ではあるのですが、短期集中で取り組みました。テキスト以外は移動時間などにスマホやパソコンで関連ワードを調べて、解説しているサイトを探しました。特別な勉強方法はないのですが、とにかく全ての時間をささげて地道に進めていきました。

―なぜ、高得点で合格できたと思いますか。

伝統工芸分野は青山スクエアで働いていて、商品説明をしなければいけないので、その知識が役立ちました。伝統文化の方も小さい時から現在まで自然と触れていました。伝統芸能は学問として取り組んだことはなかったですが、テキストを読んで初めて聞くような単語があるような状況ではなかったですね。そういった前提の知識が役に立ったように思います。あとは（日本文化が）好きで興味があるので、吸収が早かったです。歴史小説も好きで、今も武道が趣味なので改めて覚えるのも苦はなかったです。

―伝検テキストについてはどう思われますか。

公式テキストは広い分野を３００ページほどにまとめているものなので、どうしても行間が省かれているところがあって、自分が得意な分野だとそれ（省かれた部分）が分かるので、今まで勉強してこなかった分野はそれを応用して行間を埋めていく作業をしていきました。行間があるのはうすうす感じ、ここはもう少し深いところがあるのだろうなと読んで、自分でほかの本で調べたりしました。

―伝検がきっかけで学んだことで普段の生活などに影響はありましたか。

短期間でしたが、普段触れてはいても学問として触れたことがないことを学んだことで幅が広がりました。ちょうど今、茶道の本を読んでいるのですが、伝検で興味を持ったので、もう少し深く勉強しようと思いました。

―今後の抱負を教えてください。

伝統工芸・伝統文化が、当たり前のように傍らにある世の中に再びなることが私の理想です。今後も生涯を通して造詣を深めていき、日本の伝統文化・伝統技術と、人々の日々の生活との橋渡しの役を担えるようにまい進する所存です。

Mr Emura, winner of the first Dencen's Level 2 Grand Prize - “I studied the text”

Takuya Emura, winner of the Grand Prize.

The second examination started on 1 June. To help examinees with their studies, we asked Takuya Emura, who won the Level 2 Grand Prize in the first edition, about his study methods.

-How did you come to know about the Denken?

I am currently working as a staff member at Aoyama Square (Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo), a gallery and shop where you can find traditional crafts from all over Japan, and I am in contact with traditional crafts on a regular basis. I decided to take the test. I decided to study hard and concentrated on it.

-What was your study method?

I read the textbooks anyway - five times. Normally, I am the type of person who studies and researches slowly, but this time I didn't have much time, so I concentrated on it in a short period of time, although in my own assessment it was a bit of a false start. Apart from the textbooks, I looked up related words on my smartphone or computer during travel time and searched for websites that explained them. I don't have a special study method, but I just devoted all my time to it and worked steadily.

-Why do you think you were able to pass with a high score?

In the field of traditional crafts, I work at Aoyama Square and have to explain products, so that knowledge was useful. I was also naturally exposed to traditional culture from when I was little until now. I never worked on traditional arts as an academic subject, but I was never in a situation where I had to read a text and hear a word for the first time. I think that kind of prerequisite knowledge was useful. I also like (Japanese culture) and am interested in it, so I absorbed it quickly. I also like historical novels and I still enjoy martial arts, so it was not hard for me to learn again.

-What do you think of the Biography text?

The official text is a compilation of 300 pages covering a wide range of fields, so there are inevitably places where lines have been omitted, and I could tell when I was good at a particular field (the omitted parts), so I applied that to the fields I hadn't studied before and worked on filling in the lines. I could vaguely sense that there was a gap between the lines, and I read that there must be something a little deeper here, so I looked it up in other books on my own.

-Did what you learned as a result of the biographical examination have an impact on your everyday life?

It was a short period of time, but it broadened my horizons by learning things that I had never been exposed to as an academic subject, even though I had been exposed to them on a regular basis. I am currently reading a book on the tea ceremony, and Dengen got me interested in it, so I decided to study it a little deeper.

-What are your ambitions for the future?

My ideal is that the world will once again be a place where traditional crafts and culture are a natural part of life. I will continue to deepen my knowledge throughout my life and strive to play a role as a bridge between traditional Japanese culture and technology and people's daily lives.
